Bible study continues in Job. We are currently on the first round of questioning by Job's friends. We are hearing from Bildad. Another great lesson on how we really don't know what people are going through and we often judge from what we see not realizing a bigger battle may be underway. Come join us for Tuesday night bible study at 6.

Minister Kat will be missing the next couple of Sundays due to her work schedule. In her absence, Toby taught the adult class an extended lesson on Forgiveness. The evening lesson was on getting beyond our faults.
The church agreed to participate in the CROP Walk next Sunday at the invitation of Ken Lewis. We will have one or two people walking. The church is making a donation. Toby said he was searching Facebook for some friendly donors. The event is next Sunday afternoon beginning at Wal-Mart and continuing to PVB and up Market Street and back to McDonalds. 25% of the money raised stays local. The rest helps fight world hunger.

We are still having an attendance of anywhere from 15-40 each week. We have seating for 55. We would love for you and your family to come and join us. We need folks that are excited about serving the Lord. We are a very active small church. We have some big plans for the community in the coming months and we could use a hand.
For a small church we oversee the REACT project, Samaritan's Closet, numerous concession stands and we have new projects coming in 2011. At Love and Kindness, we believe your relationship with God is personal and individual. We don't care about your past, we care about your future. Come and join Minister Kat and Minister Toby and the rest of our church this Sunday. Remember, we have bible study on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

It was a great week of bible scripture at Love and Kindness. Minister Kat taught on being a servant for the Lord and to each other. She touched on how we are to be meek by putting other's needs above our own. Toby followed her teaching with a sermon on "The dangers of dabbling in sin." The evening service was a bible study on "The love of money."
Plans are underway for the annual Black Walnut Festival Concession Stand. This year will feature hotdogs, hamburgers, soda and nachos with chili and cheese.
Also, Love and Kindness wants to thank Brenda Samples with the Blue Grass Riding Club for asking our team to return in 2011 and handle their concessions for them again. This was a great year for all involved. We appreciate the opportunity.
September15Bible Study continues in Job
Two chapters were covered during bible study this past week. The church is looking at the questioning by Job's friends. We are in the first round of questioning by Eliphaz. Job is ready to answer. Job has been wishing he had never been born so he wouldn't have to endure the suffering that he is. Yet, he still is not blaming God. Come and learn how we must be careful because the devil can use us as "Friends" to do his dirty work. Satan was trying to get Job to denounce God and now he is working through his friends.
First it was loss of possessions, then lost of 10 children, then loss of health and then family issues.... and now friends who set out to help are about to hurt.Come and see how this lesson applies to us today. Bible study is every Tuesday at 6pm for an hour. You don't have to be a member of our church to attend. Everyone is welcome.

Love and Kindness would like to thank Rev. William "Bill" Robinson for sharing a special message with the church this past Sunday. Bill preached about the bible and how it's God's Holy Word. His teaching touched on some of the beliefs of Muslims and the Quran. Jesus is the only way to heaven and soul redemption.
September9REACT announces Spooktacular Bowling Party
Love and Kindness REACT will sponsor a Halloween Spooktacular Bowling Party on Sunday, October 31 at Spencer Lanes. The community will be invited to attend the free event in costume for an afternoon of fun. Prizes will be awarded for the scariest, prettiest, funniest and cutest. Moonlight bowling will be offered (lights out with pin lights only) and music and dance lights will fill the alley. There will be tons of fun. REACT (recreation and education for adults and children together) encourages parents to dress up with the kids and expect an exciting fun time. There will be crazy contests and some surprises. Spencer Lanes is partnering with REACT on the project. More details will come in October. Go ahead and tell your friends and family to mark it on your calendar. After church come and have a great time at the bowling alley Sunday, October 31 from 2-5.

September7Labor Day Kids Derby nets 53 fish from the dock
Two 20 minutes rounds consisting of 8 kids and 8 adults and 9 kids and 9 adults fished their hearts out trying to win new bicycles from Wal-Mart. REACT would like to Congratulate Brenlee McKown age 5 and Culann Fort age 4 for winning the female and male division of the free Labor Day Kids' Fishing Derby at Charles Fork Lake. Brenlee caught 12 fish during her 20 minute round and Culann 11. He and Ryan Smith both had 11fish in separate rounds and a tie breaker drawing had to be used to determine the winner. Ryan had won the previous two years but this year, lost out to Culann (pronounced Collin) in the drawing. In all 53 fish were caught during the 40 minute event. The top boy and girl angler received bicycles courtesy of Wal-Mart of Spencer. The event was presented by Love and Kindness REACT and the City of Spencer. Pictured below are Brenlee (left) John Lahoda (Wal-Mart manager) and Culann with their bikes. The other picture is the first group of two that would be fishing from the dock.

September6Labor Day Bass Tourney Winner is from Spencer
REACT would like to Congratulate Lewis Myers of Spencer for reeling in a 2.8 pound bass to win this year's Labor Day bass tournament at Charles Fork Lake. Just behind Myers was e was Harry Sutton of Newton by 6 ounces and third was Tony McCumbers from Calhoun County who just trailed Sutton. In all 17 anglers took part. Love and Kindness REACT is thinking about raising the prize fund to see if we can double or triple entries for next year. The church would like to thank the City of Spencer for partnering with us on the project.

August30Preparing for the Labor Day Bass Tourney
Special thanks to Roane General Hospital and Wal-Mart for agreeing to sponsor the Labor Day fishing tournaments this year at the lake. RGH will again sponsor the main bass tournament while Wal-Mart is providing bicycles also for the third year for the kids.

August8Sunday services are being held at Spring Heights
Parents you are invited to join us for Sunday service at Spring Heights. Morning service begins at 8:00 with Jack Roberts from Steele Hollow Church speaking. Toby will follow with a Sunday School lesson on Baptism, since four people have indicated they wanted to be baptized at Camp. A baptism will be held at their pool. There are a ton of activities for the kids today. It's gonna be hot. Pick up your kids today at 4:30 at the pool at Spring Heights.

August22010 Youth Summer Camp is this Friday
Imagine learning about serving God in a beautiful country setting where kids can be kids. The 2010 Youth Summer Camp sponsored by Love and Kindness will feature two and half days filled with canoeing, ropes course, field games, swimming, bible lessons and songs. Campers will get the chance to enjoy top notch entertainment featuring Master Magician Dewayne Hill, who is a world recorder for the most card tricks done in a minute. Not only does he perform magic, he talks about his love for God and how overcoming racism can be done. Matthew Cambell, a Christian juggler will be on-hand to show his skills with balls, rings, boxes, spinning plates, eggs and more. Matthew is the son of a preacher who is down to Earth and loves kids. As a father himself, he has a passion for juggling. Matthew will be teaching the kids some techniques they can learn with their juggling balls they will receive at camp. Guest speakers for the weekend will be Ron Shamblin from Sissonville, Jack Roberts from Steele Hollow Church, and our own Toby Wagoner who will eat fire in fog, to demonstrate Isah. chapter 6. Add this to great food, fun games and great mentors and you have a weekend packed full of excitement.
Happy Anniversary to Debbie and Rob Wagoner. Congrats!!
August1OR or ED? and He's coming back
Nearly a full house on Sunday and the messages were great. Minister Toby started with a lesson called "Sometimes you're the OR and Sometimes you're the ED." His message talked about God uses us sometimes to carry out his blessings on others. Whether it's helping someone with money, or chore or illness, God can use us to his Glory and that makes us a Blessor. In turn, he may use others the same way toward us, which makes us the Blessed. Toby illustrated how you reap what you sow and how we should try and pay love and kindenss forward with simple acts of kindness to allow God to show through us. The Love of Jesus Christ, passes all understanding.
Minister Kat preached the evening service in the final Chapter of Revelation. Jesus, gives a stern warning that he's coming again and quickly. We have to be ready. We need to live as close to God as we can. Interesting how the final words in the bible....tell us to be ready for Jesus' return.

Yippee... We are completely full registration is now closed. Just ordered 93 t-shirts for adults, kids, counselors, and friends of the camp. Parents should check back soon for an updated CAMP WEBPAGE that says what to bring and a highlighted schedule of events.
This is why the church raises money year-round to host events like this and keep them affordable at only $25 per person. Thanks to everyone that's been supporting us year-round.
This year's theme on the shirts is Power Lifting. Go ahead, pick up your cross and follow Jesus.
Check-in is at 5:30 p.m. August 6. Kids should have had dinner before they arrive. Only a snack will be provided Friday night. Camp ends at 4:30, Sunday, August 8.
July20Early Bird Rate Extended Through Friday
Folks have until this Friday to get their children signed up for the 2010 Youth Summer Camp at Spring Heights to take advantage of the early bird rate. Note: You must be signed up by Thursday to get a free t-shirt as we are placing orders then. Anyone who signs up after Thursday will not receive a t-shirt. Camp is open to those age 5-18 at Spring Heights and will be held August 6-8. Check-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and check-out is Sunday at 4:30. We are so excited about this year's activities. Special guest speakers for the weekend include Ron Shamblin, Jack Roberts and Toby Wagoner. Yes, Toby will be doing his fire eating illustrative sermon of Ish chapter 6. Don't miss slight of hand master magician Dewanye Hill Friday night, Matthew Campbell our juggler will toss balls, clubs, boxes, rings and spin plates on Saturday afternoon, the dance party Saturday night and the super-fun field games on Sunday afternoon. Over two days of swimming, climbing a giant rock wall, human wrecking ball, electronic cooler racing, a bungee run, canoeing, plus excellent accommodations in a cabin.
Our camp is designed to strengthen character and encourage a relationship with Jesus. Our goal is to encourage children to want to go to church and learn about God. We use creative ways to illustrate scripture and show that being a Christian is fun. Please note that there will be no onsite registration permitted. Friday, August 6 kicks off with a balloon bust ice breaker, songs, four corner game, fire eatjng in fog sermon that encourages us to clean our mouths up by respecting our parents, teachers, and friends. This jaw dropper will be followed by the slight of hand feats of a world record holding magician. The fun builds all weekend. Kids are up each morning at 7:30 for breakfast and are in bed by 11.
Adults/parents wishing to purchase a t-shirt may do so for $10 up to size XX and $12 3x and up.

July11Online Camp Registration is Now Open
August 6-8 will be this year's Youth Summer Camp at Spring Heights presented by Love and Kindness Independent Church. We just posted the online registration form which includes credit and debit card processing. Many folks said it would be easier to make this available for adults that live outside of Spencer. With the early bird registration closing on July 18, it is now available for those needing it. If you would rather print an application above and drop it off in Spencer to our church secretary, you may do so by calling 304-927-2919. You may also mail it to PO Box 284 Spencer, WV 25276. Just $25 if you register early. After July 18 or after 40 campers register the fee goes to $50.
Adults attending part of the camp will be required to pay a $25 fee. This helps pay for entertainment, food, and camp costs. Do so by July 18 and you get a t-shirt, too. Last year, we had several adults attend the magic show and preaching sessions.

June30Two kinds of Christians in 3rd John Chapter 1
During bible study Tuesday night, Minister Toby took the congregation on an extensive look into the last epistle in John. The Elder compliments Gaius for his willingness to be an "A" Christian. He was welcoming, loving and an example to his church. People were talking about his goodness. In his letter, he notes another worker in the church that was all about himself, and not accepting of those not already in the church. Third John is shortest book in the bible and illustrates that we have to be careful as Christians to ensure we're more like Gaius who strove to be more like Jesus. While Jesus is our example as a whole, we need people in the church to be role models, too. We are to be examples to the flock, according to scripture.
June27Great crowd for Sunday Service
Sunday's services was packed with two wonderful sermons. The first was from Minister Toby who preached a message called, "What it takes to be in God's will" using scripture from 1st Thess. Chapter 4. Toby explained that God's plan for each person's life may be different but his will for everyone's life is the same. 1) Getting Saved 2) Sanctification - process of becoming holy and living for Christ along the way 3) planting the Word in your heart, hearing the word so your faith can grow 4) finding strength in the Word to get through rough times until heaven 5) and ultimately loving and serving God and each other for as long as we're on the Earth.
The evening service with Minister Kat was from 2nd Timothy Chpt 3 and centered around living through perilous times and how people will be lovers of themselves more than others. The church looked at the first five verses of the scripture to see if the "times" that Paul warned Timothy about are the times we are living in today. Take a moment and look at the scriptures and send us an email and tell us what you think.

A free fellowship bean luncheon is set for Sunday after morning service at noon. Come enjoy Brown or White beans, friend potatoes, and more. Isn't it great to spend time with people you love.
Church fellowship builds relationships, understanding and generates love for the brother or sister.
June22Bible Study 2nd John Chapter 1
This week's bible study centered around false doctrines (teachers) and those spreading a gospel that is contrary to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We see how John encouraged the church and cautioned about listening to just any religious doctrine.
The study looked at a couple of religions that minimize the role of Jesus as an example. We further discussed why the writing specifically forbids us inviting those carrying false doctrine with them into our homes.
The message is clear: Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the only way to heaven. It must always be about Jesus, the sinless son of God, who died for our sins and rose again the third day.
Next week, we move to 3rd John. Come join our discussion on Tuesday night at 6 p.m.
June20Happy Father's Day Everyone
Love and Kindness recognized fathers during services. Minister Kat's Sunday School lesson was on staying focused on the task at hand. Toby's morning devotion was on "Jarius, as a dad." Several Counselors from Spring Heights were on-hand for morning worship was nice. Mary spearheaded a luncheon which followed regular services.
Toby preached the evening message entitled "It begins and ends with Love" using scripture from 1st Corn. Chpt 13.
The service ended with a time of reflection on where are we lacking love in our personal lives outside the church.
June18Samaritan's Closet is Tomorrow
Please spread the word that the church will hold a free personal hygiene product distribution at the church Saturday from 10-noon. Anyone that is need or is out of work should come for a free package.
The Samaritan's Closet is held the the third Saturday of each month and is open to anyone. Must be present to pick up your package. One package per family. per month.
Over 1,000 people have benefited from the project.
June9"Trying Love" Bible Study continues in 1st John
Bible study Tuesday night with the lesson resuming in 1st John, Chapter 4. The lesson for the church was that we must strive to love each at whatever the cost, as commanded by God. Loving God and loving each other is symbol of Jesus' unfailing love in our lives.
Why would John encourage us to love more? Is love the only remedy in a world filled with hate? How easy is it to love a brother or neighbor when he hates you? These are the questions we have to ask as we study. Join us we journey through the books of 1, 2, 3 John. Come and engage in the discussion.
June7This week's Sermons "Guardian Angels" & "Go"
Toby's morning sermon this past Sunday was on Guardian Angels. He used scripture from Psalms 91 . His message illustrated how God assigned angels at key moments to protect his people. Stories used were Peter's chains loosened in jail; Daniel in the lion's den; and the Hebrew children in the fire. The message said, it makes us wonder how many times has God sent an angel to help us in our time of need.
Minister Kat had the evening service with a message entitled GO. She emphasized the need for Christians to be willing to take our testimony to anyone that would hear. Speaking on the great commission, she pointed out that it is all of our responsibility to take the gospel to the people. You don't have to be a minister to share the love of Jesus with a friend, a neighbor or a coworker.
Plans were reviewed for the upcoming concession stand at the Bluegrass Riding Club Horse Show next Saturday. Proceeds from that event will be used to support the Samaritan's Closet which provides free personal hygiene products to those in need in the community. The project has been underway for over a year and over a 1,000 people have benefited from it.
June3Previous Post Clarified after email received
We received an e-mail from a web page reader that pointed out in our last post that there was an error citing the rope and the high priest. They were correct. We should have clarified the part listed as she used as an example, not reading from scripture.... the story of the high priest wearing bells and some say had a rope tied to them, in the event they were not holy when they entered the holies of holies and died others would know and pull them by the rope. As the e-mail pointed out correctly there is no rope mentioned in the bible around the priest, that was used to pull them out if they dropped dead for being unholy.
This has been a story that has been passed down through the church likely as an example or legend according to scholars who refute the claim.
After the e-mail, it inspired us to post what the experts say on the issue. One commentary that we felt explained it well comes from Christiananswers.net.
Here's a sample of what they say:
"Various versions of this claim have been reported in Christian and Jewish circles. As yet we have not located the original source, but apparently it originated long after the last Jewish Temple was gone. The biblical and historical evidence indicates that there was no rope at least not any in common use. Dr. W.E. Nunnally, a professor of Hebrew and early Judaism, has reported 'The rope on the high priest legend is just that: a legend. It has obscure beginnings in the Middle Ages and keeps getting repeated. It cannot be found anywhere in the Bible, the Apocrypha, the Dead Sea Scrolls, Josephus, the Pseudepigrapha, the Talmud, Mishna, or any other Jewish source. It just is not there." Special thanks to our reader who suggested we review / check the post, and cited scripture from Leviticus. We tried to reply a special thank you for pointing that out, but the email address listed was invalid. We trust the posted clarification and added commentary helps us emphasize that God desires us to be holy for he is holy.

May30Memorial Day Remembered - Great Services!
Andrea led the service with a devotion on being faithful. She spoke about Faith moves mountains. Minister Kat followed with her Sunday school lesson surrounding the "Blood" that cleanses us. She points out that without the shedding of blood there was no remission of sins. She explained how the priests wore bells and had a rope tied to them, in the event they were not holy when they entered the holies of holies and died others would know and pull them by the rope. The message encouraged us to be holy for he is Holy. (SEE CLARIFICATION IN THE POST ABOVE) Toby's sermon for the morning was "The Power of One." This lesson encouraged the church to build upon the strengths that God has blessed us with individually, noting that when we work together in unity or as "one" no one can get in our way and no project will ever be too big. If God is with us, who can be against us. Toby challenged the church to set our goals and aspirations for the church high, as God has met every need of the church. He said, "We're doing things that large churches aren't doing. It's not because they can't, it's because we've decided to tap into the talents and abilities that God has given to us. It's the "Power of One" with God leading and directing. Let us be an example to other churches and Christians that we are known by our fruits. The evening sermon was entitled "The Healer." Toby reminded the congregation that some churches today believing healing was only for the biblical days, but he assured the group God is stealing healing people's sickness, troubles, doubts, families, and marriages. We just have to turn it over to him. We have to have faith, that is able and willing, if we ask according to his will and purpose for our life.
May23Praise given to God for successful fund raiser
The morning began with numerous people giving testimonies of praise to God for the camp fund raiser held on Friday. Everyone talked about how the church members worked together as a team to not only meet but exceed the expectations of those attending. It was pointed out that prayer before the event doors were opened, ensured God was receiving all the Glory for the work that had been accomplished.
May21Bingo was fun and exciting. It was a Full House.
Over 100 tickets were sold in advance for the event and the church took many of their own tables and chairs to add t the seating. The community building was decorated with signage and scenes from the 50s and 60s. Special thanks to Nathan Craft who played the music for us. Many people reported they had never laughed so much or hard in a long time. Best of all the fund raiser was a success for 2010 Summer Camp. Thanks for attending and making this year's event absolutely incredible.

May9Honoring Mothers in the service & at Miletree
Mothers have a tremendous influence on all of us. A mother's love is special and unique. A protective being from the time the baby is formed in the belly, until their last breath on Earth.
Today we honor mothers both living and those that have passed on. Rev. Bill Robinson beautifully illustrates the power of a mother's love. The ladies of the church assisted with a Mother's Day tea at Miletree. Special thanks to Fran Bates for allowing her fellow church members the chance to experience this wonderful celebration at such a wonderful facility in Spencer.
May8Love and Kindness sells concessions at horse show
Love and Kindness ministry team is selling concessions today and all season at the Bluegrass Riding Club horse shows this year. The ministry team will be selling concessions the second Saturday of each month at the horse ring down Tucker's Run. If you come out, let us do the cooking. Proceeds benefit the ministry efforts of the church.
Update: The first event was held and was a success. Barbecue, Chicken, Hot Dogs, chips, drinks and snacks were sold. Special thanks to Rhonda Lane for assisting with this event and to Brenda Samples for the kind invitation to be a part of the 2010 BGRC show season.

Apr25Praise and Worship with Heather Freeland
Love and Kindness had a full house for praise and worship Sunday featuring Heather Freeland of Ravenswood. Heather's music can be heard on our sermon page. She was followed by Andrea Wagoner and J'Nae Carter. It was nice to see Deloris and Homer back as well as several others. Evelyn Goodwin and Pam Taylor spearheaded a nice dinner for the church following the event.
If you are looking for a place you can worship God, stop by and see us sometime. Services are Sunday morning at 10 and Sunday evening at 6. Tuesday night bible study begins at 6.
Apr20A Real Scary Place Called Hell
Toby taught bible study this evening and taught from Luke chapter 16 on the rich man and beggar. The class began by going around the room to list reasons why people choose not to come to church. Everyone gave a different answer and it could have continued for a while. The message looked in depth of the life of the rich and poor. The rich man needs for nothing and depends on no one. The beggar needs everything and depends on everyone to meet this needs. After death, the beggar goes to heaven and the rich man to hell. The rich man is tormented and begs to return to warn his family of this place; he even prays in hell and is request denied. Meanwhile the beggar is enjoying eternal glory. Sadly, the lesson shows that hell is a real place just as heaven is. When we die, we go one place or the other. As Christians, we have to do whatever we can to tell people that we have a choice and that choice is now. To choose to do nothing (such as going to church) is making a choice. The class ended by revisiting the reasons why people don't go to church and how we can help them overcome that. Jesus came not into the world to condemn it, but to save it. However, there are consequences to choices we make. Some could torment us for eternity.
Apr18Faults and Different Talents
Love and Kindness had a great praise and worship service Sunday. Special thanks to everyone that took part. The morning sermon was on overcoming faults. The message centered around scripture from Roman's 3, that says All have sinned and come short of the Glory of God. We learned that you should use your flaws as a spring board for God. Don't let the devil hold you back telling you what you can't do, with Christ you can do all things.
Minister Kat had the evening service. Her message centered around helping each other for the greater cause. Because we have different talents, we work together to glorify God.

Apr11Two Lessons to Live By
Morning sermon was entitled "The crossroads - Go left or right" and the evening sermon was "The Power of the Resurrection." The evening devotion was led by Minister Kat while special singing with J'Nae Carter and Andrea Wagoner was held.
A special sing has been planned for April 25 and will feature Heather Freeland a Love and Kindness favorite, followed by a full luncheon spearheaded by Evelyn Goodwin.
Apr4Sunrise Service Success
We had a nice crowd for Easter sunrise service which began at 8am. J'Nae Carter sang during the service that featured the Easter story, communion and a breakfast buffet. Following the service, children were treated to an egg hunt at Washington Park with treat packages for everyone that participated. Special thanks to Pam Taylor for organizing the kids' event and Mary Webb for spearheading the breakfast.

Mar31Easter Sunrise Service Set for Sunday
The annual Easter Sunrise service will be held at 7am with the Easter Story, dedication and communion, followed by a full breakfast. Children colored eggs last week, and those will be used for an egg hunt at a location to be announced during the service. This would be a great time to get back into church, or rededicate your life to serving Christ. We are an active church and can always use some more willing workers. Bring your talents and come praising the Lord, for he is worthy and his mercy endures forever.
Mar30Eggs Delivered This Week
Special thanks to everyone for participating in the Easter egg deliveries this week. We used over 100 pounds of chocolate, 200 pounds of sugar, tons and tons of peanut butter, lots of real cherries, coconut and more to make this year's eggs. Most of the eggs weighed in at a 1/2 pound. They were huge. Special thanks to the Cooks for a great job. We have been told these are the best ones they have ever eaten. Good job everyone.

Mar24Jesus Betrayed By Judas Bible Study
As the church continues to enter Holy Week, Tuesday's bible study centered around Jesus being handed over to the mob, in the garden using scripture from the Book of John. The study discussed the motive behind Judas' betrayal to Peter's slashing off a man's ear, to his eventual denying of Jesus. With this seemingly falling apart, the Cross is now in sight. Restoration is coming. Sunday is Palm Sunday. Are we ready to begin our own, journey to the cross? Are you ready to accept that ultimate sacrifice for your sins? Easter Sunday service will be at 7 am with communion, breakfast and an egg hunt to follow. If you have thought about getting back into church, let this be your personal invitation. Mar21Preparing for Palm Sunday
Today's morning service was entitled "Hold on the Cross and Go" taken from the book of Mark. Tonight's lesson was called "Aint No Mountain High Enough to Keep Me From Getting to You." The lesson centered around the man that needed to be lowered into the sanctuary from the ceiling of the church to get to Jesus.
Plans were set in place for the Sunrise Service on Sunday, April 4, at 7 a.m. This will be a communion service followed by breakfast. There will be Easter gifts for the children and an egg hunt downtown.
Final egg numbers will be turned into Fran on Tuesday. Please make sure you bring those to bible study or call Debbie at 927-2919.
Next Sunday, March 28 (Palm Sunday) will be Egg Coloring Sunday for the youth at the church during morning worship following Sunday School. Children should have an old-tshirt to wear. Each child will decorate up to 6 eggs. One teen will be assigned to each group under the direction of Pam Taylor.
Mar16Kat begins study in Daniel for bible study
Minister Kat has been holding the Tuesday night bible study at 6 p.m. For the last couple of weeks we have been in Genesis. This week, the study moved to the Daniel. The King "referenced in the last sermon" has decided to overthrow the present government. He has sought after the smartest and finest people he could fine, once the throne was his. Taking the goods from the place of Worship, the King is about to bring about some problems. When you start messing with God and all things Godly, bad things tend to happen. Minister Kat set the scene to continue the study next week. If you want to take part in an active, engaging bible study why not join us. It lasts one hour.
Mar14Nebuchadnezzar Was About Image
Toby taught the morning lesson this week on King Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel chapter 1 and the building of the golden statue that stood approximately 9 stories tall. The King invited all the who's who to attend the dedication ceremony. A decree was made to force people to worship the image. Shadrack, Meshach and Abednego refused and were cast into the furnace. The study looked at Nebuchadnezzar. The Hebrew boys were about God and serving him which is why they refused to bow. They knew God was still God whether they would be delivered or not. An attitude we need to adopt.
Many people from the church attended a benefit dinner for a long time church friend. The dinner raised over $2,400. Special thanks to those that attended the event. Keep the Jenkins family in your prayers.
Mar9Bible Study Continued in Genesis
Minister Kat taught from the book of Genesis tonight on Jacob and his wife Rachel. We looked at how Jacob fulfilled his obligation to his would-be father-in-law to work for the love of his life. While he labored, he was continually blessed. Eventually, he gets the wife he longed for.
Next Sunday's church service will have only Sunday School. The church will then prepare for the first wedding to be held in the church. We will be moving some furniture to accommodate the wedding party.
Mar7First Wedding Planned for Love and Kindness
Minister Kat and Toby will together perform the first wedding at Love and Kindness Church on the 14th of March. A rehearsal is planned for this afternoon. God has been so good to the church will sustained growth, active membership and vision for 2010. This will be Kat's second wedding that she has performed and Toby's third, in the last three years.
Today message will be "Crucified with Jesus" and will use the text taken from Romans 6: 1- 18. The message is best summarized with the quote: "Freedom is the right to be wrong, not the right to do wrong" - John Diefenbaker.
Mar2Congratulations Twins - Jacob & Esau
Minister Kat taught from the book of Genesis tonight at Love and Kindness. We enjoyed the study of Jacob and Esau. We looked at jealousy and the birthright. Esau was born first. But when his twin brother Jacob was being born, Jacob's hand was holding onto Esau's heel. This was taken as a sign that Jacob wanted to be born first. Later in life, Jacob continued to show that he wanted to be his father's heir. More on the study next week. Bible study lasts one hour and is held on Tuesday nights.

Another soul was saved at Love and Kindness this past week. What a great service!!
Minister Toby had the morning message entitled, "Working for the Greater Cause" and Minister Kat had the evening sermon entitled "Faith - Just Believe."You could really feel God's presence in both services. Feb10Weather Reminds Us to Pray for the Homeless
With all of the snow and cold weather that has hit the region over the last several weeks, today's icy roads and frigid temperatures should remind us all to pray for the homeless. We pray they find refuge from the cold and generosity from those who can offer it. We pray that services are available to help the most vulnerable. Here is a scripture thought from the book of Isaiah.
Isa 25:4 For thou has been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones as a storm against the wall.
Feb6Weather Cancels Church Services Sunday
Church services for Sunday February 7th have been canceled due to the weather. The Governor has issued a state of emergency which means limited travel is encouraged.
Please stay safe during this blast of winter weather. Remember those in the church that need prayer and we hope to be back on Tuesday, Lord willing.
Feb2Finished the Study of Exodus
Our study of the book of Exodus showed us a couple of different things. First, God calls people to do a work. Moses was called and reluctantly answered. Second, God's judgments are serious business as we learned with the plagues. Third, we learned that we shouldn't play with God, as the Pharaoh did. We learned there is saving power in the blood of the Lamb. Back in their day is was the sacrifice. In our day, it was the sacrifice of Jesus Christ our Lord. Lastly, we win if we just stay faithful. We all the choice to come out of sin's bondage if we put our trust in the Lord.
Jan31A Handful with Purpose
Church services were held Sunday but the weather kept many people away. Just a handful of people attended the morning and evening services. Even with the limited number of folks able to make it to the church over the weekend, both the morning and evening services were held. The message Sunday morning was "When Your Own Community Won't Accept You" using Jesus' teaching in Mark 6. The evening message was entitled "God's Recipe for Happiness." The end result, a happy life begins and ends with Jesus. During the service we examined scriptures throughout the bible where it explains When, What and Who is considered to be happy. Perhaps we have to learn to Renew Our Minds.
Overall, even with a weekend of bad weather, those who came learned that even with a handful of people, God is in the midst and the purpose remains. Hopefully the weather gets better soon, but we have to remember it's winter. Bible study resumes Tuesday night at 6 as we study the book of Exodus and the crossing of the Red Sea.

Jan27The Passover Explained & Still Observed
Tuesday night bible study continued our journey in Exodus, Chapter 12. We continued our study of how death came to all of the first born in Egypt to families that were not protected by the blood of the lamb. This was the last of 10 plaques poured out on the people of Egypt. During the study, we looked at how the Elders told their families to stay inside and sprinkle the blood on the door posts, because death was coming at midnight and the blood will provide protection in this great day of judgment. We looked at the ordinances or "required duties" recorded in Exodus that God put into to place for remembering the Passover in that day and from then on. Jewish people today, still hold fast to those teachings. We explored how Jewish people today remember and honor the Passover, including discarding all breads and grains from their home for that week, what foods were eaten and not eaten and the symbolism connected to those foods; and when they could and could not work. We learned how the Jewish culture teaches their young about the Passover and the questions used to generate discussion with the little ones, for example "Why is tonight different than any other night." Very interesting and deep.... Our study has taught us that God's judgement is true and if he says it will happen it will. Secondly, it's the blood that sets the captives free, back then and even today. Back then it was the lamb's sacrifice. Today, it was the sacrifice of Jesus, God's only sinless son -- his blood that has makes us free.
Next week, we skip over to the chase that leads to the Red Sea. On a separate note, we would like to send out a big Get Well soon to Deloris and Homer. We miss you guys. Hope to see you soon. We also had a new visitor and their son to attend last night, which was exciting.
Coming up this Sunday will be a free soup luncheon following church. Potato and vegetable soup will be served with desserts and grilled cheese sandwiches. The luncheon will following morning preaching services this Sunday.

Jan24Gamechangers & Justification
Minister Toby delivered two sermons today. The first was called "The Gamechanger," using scripture from Ephesians chapter 6 verse 10 to the end of the chapter. In sports gameschangers are often fumbles, interceptions, a wild pitch, or a bad call. Videogamers may use cheats or codes as gamechangers. But what is the gamechanger for the Christian?
What is the gamechanger for a sinner? Was turned you to God? See, once we make that turn, the next gamechanger becomes prayer. See, the gamechanger (situation changer) for a Christian is prayer. We have power in prayer. Why then is prayer one of our most underutilized weapon for a Christian?
The evening sermon was "Justification" and what it takes to be justified in God's eyes. Using scripture from Romans 5, we learned that it's the blood of Jesus that justifies us. After we are saved we become justified and sanctified in God's eyes. We become in right standing or righteous. We believe that when we make mistakes along our Christian walk we ask God to forgive us and help us change. We're a work in progress. Aren't you glad you're justified in the eyes of God? Let's keep it real and try to always do our best for the Lord Jesus. Jan19Death is coming....Bible Study Continued
Minister Toby is continuing the teaching of the Book of Exodus. Tuesday night was spent studying the last plague, of the death of the first born. We took time to look a the importance of the Passover that occurred. How the blood of the lamb saved the God's people. We talked about the great mourning for those who lost a child in the moment. We tied the lesson into how the blood of Jesus is saving us, from the wrath to come. He is the only way. We wll go deeper into the study next Tuesday.
Jan17Unanswered Prayers & Holiness
Minister Toby preached a message prayer. What happened if we got everything we prayed for or asked? Ever say, I wished this person or that person would just die. Garth Brooks sang the song "I thank God for answered prayers." We know that there is really is no unanswered prayers, the answer was either a no, or simply wait on the timing of the Lord. His timing is perfect. His way is so much better than ours. The all-seeing God knows what's best. The evening service featured Minister Kat teaching on "The Importance of being Holy." Are we really striving for a life of holiness and dedication to God or are we just walking through life with a wishy-washy attitude "Whatever happens, happens." Minister Kat taught on how we are letting our children down by not teaching them how to love (themselves, us, and their spouses).
Jan13Bible Study "Darkness You Could feel"
Toby taught from the book of Exodus Chapter 10 about the "Darkness" that God brought to the land. It was a darkness the bible said, that could be felt and left the Egyptians unable to move for three days. One wonders if on a spiritual level if this is the darkness we feel with depression, loneliness, during a sense of loss, etc. Sometimes, we feel we just want to sleep. Ultimately, darkness occurs when we are away from the Light. Today, the world is full of people in darkness. Some are just longing for the light, a purpose or hope. Can we help? Are we reaching out to them. The church should be. Ironically, the Hebrews had light. We are a reflection of his light. Are we letting our light shine. Join us next Tuesday, when we study the final plague.
Jan10Today We Honor Nadene Taylor of Spencer
Nadene V. Taylor 87 of Spencer, WV died Wednesday, January 6, 2010, in the Miletree Center, Spencer. She was born July 11, 1922 in Spencer, a daughter of the late Lacy and Ida Sleeth Smith. She was co-owner of Taylor's Upholstery and Fabric Shop in Spencer. She was a member of Love and Kindness Church in Spencer. Funeral service will be held January 10 at the John H. Taylor Funeral Home in Spencer with Ministers Toby Wagoner and Kathryn Truss officiating. Burial will be in the Hodam Chapel Cemetery in Spencer.
Nadene's daughter Fran and her husband Bob have been a huge help to Love and Kindness Church. The apple truly doesn't fall far from the tree. Fran's family has become very special to the Love and Kindness family and we extend our deepest sympathies. We love you guys.

Jan02New Year Brings New Nursery - Goal Met
Happy New Year to you and yours from Love and Kindness. We are so pleased to announce that Love and Kindness Church has already met the first goal set for 2010. The nursery is nearly completed. New carpet and padding was just installed by Professional Carpet Installations and wall decorations have been posted. We have moved the office from the old location to the room that houses the Samarian's Closet, to make room for the nursery. Special thanks to everyone that is working to make this project a reality. The nursery will be available for children age 4 and under. Now we just need to get the office cleaned, and establish a new area for the Samaritan's Closet items. It's going to be a great year with more growth at Love and Kindness. Three to four children will be using the nursery.
Dec31What are you doing New Year's Eve?
How was the year 2009 for you? Many people will celebrate "Out with the old and in with the new." Love and Kindness Church would like you to consider a new take on that. How about down with the old and up with the new - as in baptism. Here's a great point to say, I'm going to start serving the Lord. Give your kids the fresh start of a new year in church. Check out Toby's Sermon on the website just posted called, "Coming Out of the Pit." If 2009 was tough, this 11 minute snippet of the sermon might be helpful to you as you get ready to enter into 2010. Ever wonder where the idea of a baby or baby draped in a New Year banner began? Tradition said the using of a baby to signify a new year began in 600 BC as a pagan worship to parade a baby in a basket representing the annual rebirth of their god as the spirit of fertility. Additionally, early Egyptians used a baby as a symbol of rebirth. Christians denounced the practice as pagan. However, much like many of the holidays today, the church reevaluated its position. From then on, most churches allowed members to celebrate the new year with a baby which was to symbolize the birth of Baby Jesus. The baby with the banner was actually brought to America by the Germans, dating back to the 14th century.

Dec28New Year Just Days Away ~ Are you ready
While many people were cleaning up after the long Christmas weekend, the Ministry Team at Love and Kindness was starting to look forward to 2010. Both Minister Kat and Minister Toby's messages were about the coming of the new year. The last Sunday services of 2009 were exciting. One more service is planned for Tuesday (Bible Study) and Lord willing, we will move into 2010. Why not consider starting the new year with the Lord in your life. Isn't it time you got back to God. Love and Kindness has room for you. We have seating for 50, and we're three-fourths of the way there regularly. Come by and see what the Lord has done. Dec21New Church Website Launched Today
Love and Kindness Independent Church is pleased to debut our new spirit-filled website. The previous website was used by the church for the last two years while renovations were underway at the facility. The new website should make browsing our journal entries much easier. We have reduced the number of links to the left of the page. Our last page had over 100 archived journal entries. This page will help us reduce the number of entries on the homepage which will allow slower Internet speeds to download images on the website. Photo is of a recent sunset in the area.
Dec19Weather Cancels Church This Weekend
A tremendous amount of snow fell across the region over the weekend, and Love and Kindness Church canceled all services on Sunday as a result. The Governor issued a State of Emergency on Saturday which restricted nonessential traffic. The Love and Kindness Ministry team hopes you enjoy your weekend Winter Wonderland. Stay home, stay safe and we'll see you on Tuesday for bible study Lord willing.
Love and Kindness also canceled their monthly Samaritan Closet distribution because of the weather on Saturday. "It's not worthy anyone getting hurt being out on the roads when they are unsafe."
Dec12Cooking Show Benefits Samaritan's Closet
Twelve days until Christmas, that holy time of the year. Tonight,
the church is holding a fund raising Pampered Chef party with Jennifer Wagoner at the church fellowship room from 4-6 pm. Buy some gifts and they will be in by the 20th. Proceeds from the sale benefit the Samaritan's Closet that provides free monthly hygiene items. There will be refreshments, learn to make two meals in within 30 minutes (sample also) and great door prizes from the church and Pampered Chef. The event is free and open to the public. The show starts at 4 p.m. sharp. Over half of the Pampered Chef catalog is less than $20. Many items are under $10. If you spend $60 you get a free cake decorating kit. Toby will be babysitting. Kids will be treated to hotdogs and popcorn and a Disney movie in the Empty Tomb room. The Samaritan's Closet provides free personal hygiene products to those in need monthly. Those attending the event Saturday will see and get to use the products, learn two recipes that can be made in 30 minutes or less, and have the chance to win some prizes. It's going to be fun. Dec5Christmas Float 2009 ~All Lit Up
The church had a float in the parade during yesterday's Christmas Parade. Special thanks to members Fran Bates, Pam Taylor and Cathy Flashman for their work to make this float a reality. The float was said to be one of the brightest in the parade. Toby drove the thing and didn't even crash, yet he couldn't back it up. He refused to back it up. Yeah!
The Bates' Trailer was decked out with lights, flowers and the Keep It Real Ministry message. Children on the float sang songs during the parade route from Wal-Mart to the courthouse.
Special thanks to the Bates for allowing us to use their trailer again. You guys are wonderful.

We apologize for the lack of updates, but for good reason. Love and Kindness has nearly completed the new website which will replace this site. It will be operational by the end of the month and could be up within the next 10 days. It will be a much cleaner, less cluttered, look. It will include two to three journal entries on the front page. God is continuing to bless our ministry.

Buck deer season begins Monday in West Virginia and many, many hunters will fill the woods searching for the big rack. Our church will be praying for your safety as we always do. The church will begin advertising our special Thanksgiving service the Sunday which is the fifth Sunday. A huge meal with Turkey and Ham is planned. Special music will be performed by Heather Freeland of Ravenswood. You can see her sing in the youtube clip, if scroll down the page. The day will include Sunday School, a testimony praise service and then a bountiful meal followed by more music.
If you have been thinking about attending Love and Kindness, come on our. We'd love to meet you and your family. We don't care about your past, we care about your future.

It was a busy weekend for the Love and Kindness. The Sunday morning began with Praise and Worship followed by Minister Kat's morning lesson "Taste and See How Good the Lord Is." The church had an abbreviated morning service that adjourned at 11:15 since Minister Kat, Minister Toby, Debbie and Mary participated in the Kairos WV prison ministry closing ceremony at Lakin Women's Prison in Pt. Pleasant, West Virginia. The foursome got to see and hear how many women have been touched through the Kairos ministry. It was a unique experience for Love and Kindness Ministry and the four can share some interesting stories about getting checked into the facility. The four were back to host the evening service at 6 p.m. with Toby's sermon entitled "Knowing Nothing Except Jesus Christ Crucified," from Philippians chapter 3.
The church is planning their fifth Sunday sing that will feature Heather Freeland. of Ravenswood who sand during the anniversary celebration in September. You can see one of her video clips below. The 5th Sunday sing will featured with a four course Thanksgiving Dinner, open to everyone.

Minister Kat and Toby switched places this weekend, and Toby taught Sunday School and Kat brought the morning sermon. Toby taught on "Contaminated Praise" using scripture examples from the bible on Pharisee-type praise. Toby used the example that Jesus taught of the Pharisee and Publican praying in the temple as one example. Minister's Kat was entitled "Removing sin in the Camp." Minister Kat explained how we can become judgmental in the church and do more harm to our ministry than good. She reminded the church that should problems arise in the church, the Minister Team will meet them head on. The best way to solve a problem is to first acknowledge one. Good advice from the Director of Ministry. Meanwhile, the church also started a funny-fund raiser for the Samaritan's Closet. The funny-fund raiser involves counting buttons, the ounces of pop and coffee you drink and more. Each week the challenge changes. Everyone was laughing and pointing fingers after the first's week's assignments were mentioned. Come see what next week will be about. Don't forget Tuesday bible study as we continue our journey through Exodus. It begins at 6.

Bible study tonight was a lot of fun. Toby is teaching in the book of Exodus Chapter 3. Beyond the lesson, our search for relative questions for today began. 1) What's Considered Holy Ground? 2) What is God doing to get our attention, how has he done this in the past? 3) Is it normal to doubt when God wants us to do something? Hey yet another family showed up Sunday night for church. The church is trying to grow. We still have room for you. We were missing quite a few folks due to illness last week, but everyone we hear is recovering well. Hope is everyone is back on Sunday. We are an Independent Church that believes in being led by the Spirit. If you enjoy bible preaching and teaching that is line upon line precepts in the bible, then come join us. Come and see how fun serving the Lord can be. Last week's sermons were done by Toby. The first was called, Prayers are More than Lip Service. The evening service was called, God's Perfect Timing. Hope to see you at bible study on Tuesday night. It begins at 6 and will last an hour.

Another new family showed up at church last weekend and another person that many in the church used to attend services with several years ago, has started attending. What a blessing! It's funny how God has a way of brining people back together to further his cause. Our door is always open. Whether we have attended church together in the past or not, you should know you are always welcome. We don't and won't judge you. Our goal is to teach and preach Jesus Christ's saving power and his eternal love for all of mankind. In the church, we're hoping to get everyone back soon. Several in the church are recovering from sickness and we have missed them. Special prayers go out to Homer and Deloris and hope they return soon as well as Toby's family who has been recovering from the flu. Minister Kat took care of all of the services while Toby was out of town at a flu summit last week for his fulltime work. He will return this weekend. Just a reminder, if you are looking for a church, please stop by and give us a try. We have so much fun during our service with exciting praise and worship music with a full band on Sunday mornings. We also have lunches most every Sunday following church. They are free. If you want a church service that teaches the bible in a relevant useful way, then you will love the Keep It Real ministry team. Bring your bible and come experience the joy of Serving the Lord.

It was a give-and-take weekend at the Black Walnut Festival this weekend for Love and Kindness. The weather was great, very wet, windy and then cold but sunny. The weather was a "mix" of everything. The best part, we survived. The entire church pitched in to run a concession stand from Tuesday - Saturday night. Some cooked, cleaned, set-up, tore-down, ran errands, made sauce, designed the float, road on the float, assembled the float, and so much more. It was nice to have a concession crew and a float crew. That's what happens when a little ministry like ours. God is blessing. Following morning service, the folks again pitched in to return downtown town and clean the booth for Pepsi, return items to the church and deliver the hay we used on the float to its rightful owner. As you can tell by today's blog entry, we are all worn out. Minister Kat and Toby agreed that there will be no evening service tonight because of the long week the church family has completed serving God. We want to extend a special thank you to those of you that stopped by and visited our concession stand or waived at us on the float. We met a ton of folks still looking for a church and considering trying our's out. That's means there is plenty of work for all churches to do. If you were one of the folks thinking about attending one of our future services, please come ahead. We have exciting praise and worship music on Sunday morning, wonderful messages and a friendly atmosphere. We are always amazed at how God blesses our efforts each year at the festival by sending us new people. We trust you enjoyed the burgers and hot dogs. We will see you all again next year, Lord willing. We will post some pictures from the BWF week later.

We had a fantastic one year anniversary service today which included a wonderful musical praise service. Special guest singer was Heather Freeland of Ravenswood. Also singing was J'Nae & Chris Carter and Jennifer Wagoner. We have posted a special clip from the morning's service featuring Heather.
