2011 Roane County Homecoming

Spencer, West Virginia

 

In all nearly 700 people attended the Roane County Homecoming Labor Day weekend. 
This was the first time the event had been held since 2005.  Enjoy the photos from this
year's event.  Take time to read the captions and see what you missed if you didn't attend.

Snakes Alive was a big hit.  The City of Spencer was the exclusive sponsor.  Kid's cover up for the snakes.

   

Tom from Snakes Alive entertains the kids while the salsa chuggers celebrate.  Deja Vu band looks on.

   

Watermelon eating was a little sticky.  The crowd stayed under the tents.   Insured Sound was a crowd pleaser.

The award-winning bluegrass band No One You Know was excellent.  They were the first group to perform. 

   

Deja Vu was the weekend's headliner.  This Doo-Wop and oldies group (above) was wonderful.

       

Art Bell Sound Systems provided the 15,000 watts of power for the weekend.  Cookie stackers get their awards.

       

Hula hooping, inflatables, Alex's lemonade stand, and corn hole playing provided fun for all ages.

   

The rock wall was a challenge for all ages.  New Life Quartet sang first on Sunday.  And they are off...let the racing begin.

They kept the audience praising the Lord.

   

Heaven's Rush was incredible.  Kermit Godby poses with a 9/11 picture and General Hoyer arrives by Blackhawk.

   

Toby Wagoner was the emcee.  Rare Form Barbershop Qrt. was awesome.  Mayor Williams offers remarks.

   

Kanawha Valley Pipes and Drums and Drew Miller as part of the "Tribute to the Amercian Spirit."

    

General Hoyer with Minister Kat.  Hoyer gives a moving tribute and looks on as
David Beamer father of Flight 93 hero Todd Beamer is the featured speaker.

   

Beamer says we are to vigilant as Americans.  He spoke with all three tv networks following his comments.

Concessionaires Chris Carter counts money while a little one looks on.  Jeff Carter works the grill and
his wife Gerri gets the sauce ready.

   

The fishing tournaments were held on Labor Day at Charles Fork Lake.  Tony McCumbers from
Calhoun County poses with his winning catch. 

 

The kids derby was a ton of fun and provides a great opportunity for parents to spend time
with their kids.   Wal-Mart manager John Lahoda poses with the Kids' Fishing Derby winners.
